Battle Rules

Knights Larping Battle is built around safe, active, and competitive foam combat.

These rules help keep battles fair, organized, and fun for everyone on the field. All fighters are expected to follow the rules during official matches, warm-ups, and open sparring.

Core Safety Rules

Safety comes first in every battle.

  • No headshots

  • Controlled swings only

  • Approved gear only

  • Respect all fighters

  • No reckless behavior

  • Before combat begins, all fighters must agree on the contact level, power, and intensity

These rules apply at all times.

Standard Battle Kit

All fighters use a standard battle setup:

  • Helmet

  • Jersey

  • Approved foam sword

Optional: Armor

Additional gear such as shields, spears, and bows may be used in select battle formats.

Required Gear

To join official matches, fighters must have:

  • A helmet

  • A jersey

  • An approved foam weapon

This keeps battles safer, more organized, and easier to run.

Legal Target Areas

Legal target areas may include:

  • Torso

  • Arms

  • Legs

Illegal target areas include:

  • Head

  • Neck

  • Groin

Headshots are not allowed, even if a fighter is wearing a helmet.

Hit Rules

A legal hit counts only if it is controlled and made with an approved weapon.

General hit rules:

  • Torso hit = fighter eliminated

  • Arm hit = arm disabled

  • Leg hit = leg disabled

  • Two disabled legs = fighter eliminated

Disabled limbs must be honored immediately.

Armor Rules

Armor is optional and may be used in select match formats.

Only visible torso armor counts for armor protection.

Suggested armor rules:

  • Light armor = absorbs 1 legal torso hit

  • Heavy armor = absorbs 2 legal torso hits

Limb hits still count normally.

Armor classifications and match-specific armor limits may vary depending on the event.

Shield Rules

Shields may be used in select match formats.

  • Shields are for blocking only

  • No shield bashing

  • No striking with shields

  • Shields do not count as weapons

Shield use must remain controlled and safe.

Spear Rules

Spears may be allowed in select matches.

  • Spears must be approved before use

  • Controlled thrusts only

  • No face or head thrusts

  • Reckless spear use is not allowed

Spear rules may be adjusted depending on match format and fighter experience.

Bow Rules

Bows and arrows may be used in select match formats only.

  • All bows and arrows must be approved before use

  • No headshots

  • Arrows must be used safely and under control

  • Bow use may be limited depending on turnout, field setup, and battle type

Bow fighters may be restricted in some matches.

Fighter Classes

Matches may include the following fighter classes:

  • Standard Fighter

  • Shield Fighter

  • Armor Fighter

  • Spear Fighter

  • Bow Fighter

Some classes may be limited depending on battle size, turnout, and available gear.

Light sparring outside official matches is encouraged, but all rules still apply.

During open sparring:

  • Helmets must stay on

  • Controlled swings only

  • No headshots

  • Respect your sparring partner

  • All fighters must agree on the contact level, power, and intensity before combat begins

Open sparring is meant for warm-ups, practice, and confidence-building.

Conduct on the Field

All fighters are expected to help create a good battle environment.

This includes:

  • Respecting other fighters

  • Following safety calls

  • Honoring hits honestly

  • Avoiding unnecessary force

  • Keeping the experience welcoming for new fighters

The goal is strong, fun, fair combat — not chaos.

Match Formats

Battle formats may vary depending on turnout and the style of the night.

Formats may include:

  • Team battles

  • Duels

  • Rotating rounds

  • Sparring rounds

  • Specialty class matches

Some nights may be more casual, while others may be more competitive.
